Help & FAQs

Getting started

What is GuestBook, exactly?

GuestBook lets you collect video, photo, and audio messages from your event guests. Instead of a paper book where people write their names, you get a digital book of recorded memories that you can keep, watch back, and share.

It works for any kind of event — weddings, memorials, birthdays, baby showers, retirements, you name it.

How do my guests use it? Do they need an app?

No app needed. Your guests just point their phone camera at the QR code you printed. Their phone opens a web page where they tap a button, record their message, and submit it. The whole process takes about a minute.

It works on every phone — iPhone, Android, anything with a camera and a browser.

How much does it cost?

Signing up is free. Setting up your event is free. You only pay $10 when you're ready to activate the event so guests can start submitting messages.

That $10 includes 30 days of storage after your event date. If you want to keep things online longer, you can extend storage for $10 per additional month, anytime.

Setting up your event

How long does setup take?

About 60 seconds. You pick what kind of event it is (wedding, memorial, etc.), give it a name, set the date, and you're done. We generate the QR code automatically.

How should I share the QR code with my guests?

Two easy options:

  • Print one large copy and frame it. Place it at the entrance or the guestbook table where every guest will see it as they arrive.
  • Print smaller cards (you can fit 4 to a single 8.5×11 sheet) and put one on each guest table.

Both can be done from the "Print QR code" button on your event dashboard.

Can I add a photo of the honoree to the QR card?

Yes. On the "Print QR code" page, there's an upload button to add a photo. It appears at the top of the card — really nice for memorials, milestone birthdays, anniversaries.

Can guests start submitting messages before the event?

Yes. As soon as your event is activated, the link works. Some hosts share it days or weeks before the event so out-of-town family members can submit messages even if they can't attend in person.

During and after the event

Where do I see the messages my guests submit?

From your event dashboard, click into your event and you'll see them in the "Messages" section. You can also share the gallery link with guests so they can browse messages from people who attended.

Can I show the messages on a screen at the event?

Yes — we have a slideshow mode designed for projection. Click "Slideshow" from your event page and it'll auto-play through every message. Perfect for weddings or celebrations of life where you want a screen showing memories.

Can I download all the messages?

Yes. From your event dashboard you can download individual messages or all of them at once. They're yours to keep forever — even after our storage window ends.

What happens after the storage window ends?

Each event includes 30 days of storage after the event date. We send you friendly reminder emails before that window closes — at 30, 14, and 3 days before.

If you want to keep messages online longer (say, so guests can keep coming back to view), you can extend storage for $10 per additional month, as many times as you'd like. If you've already downloaded everything you want to keep, no action is needed.

Tech & troubleshooting

My guest's recording isn't working — what should they do?

First, make sure they tapped "Allow" when their phone asked permission to use the camera or microphone. If they accidentally said no, they need to enable it in their browser settings.

If the recording still won't work, ask them to try a different browser. On iPhone, Safari works best. On Android, Chrome works best.

What if I lose my QR code printout?

No problem — just log in, click your event, and click "Print QR code" again. The same QR code will be regenerated for you.

Can I edit my event details after creating it?

Yes. From your event page, click "Edit" to change the title, host name, date, or welcome message. The QR code stays the same so any printouts you've already made will still work.
